BSF’s COINTREAU COCKTAIL MASTERCLASS
Written by Gavin // October 29, 2012 // Drinks

At London Cocktail Week I had the pleasure of visiting Coco de Mer lingerie & adult toy boutique in Soho. Unfortunately it wasn’t for what you’d think, but actually to try some sensual cocktails courtesy of Cointreau. It was a rather interesting choice of venue as I have always associated Cointreau with my grandma’s drinks cabinet, but what we often forget is that Cointreau is the base ingredient for nearly all our favourite modern cocktails. Maybe it was the Margaritas (Or possibly the surrounding toys), but seeing how easy it was to create great Cointreau concoctions, I had the idea to get creative with a bottle and show you lucky people the results of my mad experiment.
We were told at the masterclass to use ingredients that we love, so after much deliberation, I came up with the idea of creating the BSF Cointreau Exotic Smoothie (patent pending) – a mix of 4 fruits including Papaya (A personal favourite), a blender, lots of ice, and the best Triple Sec money can buy. Even Calamity James couldn’t get this wrong- and to help inspire your own designer cocktails, here is a step by step guide to how I created this BSF exclusive.
Ingredients
2 Cups of Crushed Ice
½ Cup of Cointreau
Juice from ½ a Lemon
1 Papaya cut into cubes
8 Raspberries
2 Cups of Orange Juice
330ml of Lemonade (i.e. 1 can)
Method
1. Put ice into blender* and add Cointreau, fruits, and juices. I have squeezed fresh oranges, but feel free to use orange juice.
2. Blend for a few seconds and add half the can of lemonade while blender is on.
3. Once blended, fill about ¾ of a large tumbler and then add the remainder of the lemonade.
Easy and delicious!
Cointreau Orange Liqueur 40% ABV, RRP £13.00 / 50cl. Available in any good supermarket / off licence.
