Guest Post: NEW: Earlham Street Clubhouse, Covent Garden
We transcend into the basement, passing recycled, tin advertisements, Coney Island lights and exposed brick into the swinging 90’s of East Coast America. The winding rooms are packed with Londoners all getting a taste of preppy, old school Americana whilst sipping on Clubhouse Lageritas and Rolling With The Homies. We are at Earlham Street Clubhouse in the heart of Covent Garden and the house is rocking.
The extensive cocktail list has been designed by expert drinks consultants, Soul Shakers, all of which lend their names to 90s American pop culture. Drinks such as the Power Ranger, a concoction of Bulleit bourbon shaken with fresh lemon, egg quite, apricot jam and red wine, can be ordered at the copper topped standalone bar. Squeezing between people to see the cocktail menu wasn’t a problem as we found them dangling overhead on retractable zip cords.
The maze-like venue has hidden coves and cosy booths tucked into back rooms, perfect for a group night out or a tucked away lunch. Speaking of food, a selection of New York thin crust pizzas are wood fired and served with tasty toppings such as fennel sausage, Scamorza cheese and Scotch Bonnet chillies. These also lend their names to American pop culture such as The Ferris Bueller with chili chicken and spicy salami and Dawson’s Creek with smoked Arboath salmon and watercress.
The staff, dancing through the crowd with fresh slices being snatched from the board are kitted out in Earlham Street Clubhouse’s typical preppy style. The men don blazers and slacks and women are in pleated tartan skirts with silk blouses. The music is pumping from the Clubhouse jukebox in the corner, which you can choose music from by selecting songs using a new ‘secret DJ’ app on your Smartphone.
The Earlham Street Clubhouse is open 12pm – midnight Monday to Saturday and 12pm – 10.30pm on Sundays. It’s a laidback venue in the heart of Covent Garden for Londoners to grab a bite at lunch, relax over cocktails, or party with friends into the night.
