BAR REVIEW: Loves Company, Old Street
I’ve never quite understood the phrase ‘Misery Loves Company’. Is the grumpy old fool miserable because they don’t like being around people, or is it that they find solace with others who share their unfortunate disposition? Whatever it is, I think that everyone can agree that a good cocktail with friends can solve all of life’s ails; and that’s what East London’s latest cocktail bar Loves Company is all about.
Based right outside one of the many exits of Old Street train station, Loves Company is an underground Victorian themed bar with an alternative feel to it; think Russell Brand pre sobriety. The drinks are equally quirky with bizarre named cocktails including the Santa Maria Puta Madre, Jack Sparrow, and Honest Zombie- you know it’s going to kill you. I highly recommend trying the Cardamonium, a spicy tequila and mezcal cocktail with pineapple and cardamom seeds to garnish. Most are priced around a very reasonable £8.
