You may remember that BSF wrote an article about UK Rumfest taking place over the weekend of 14-16 October.  We are pleased to say that the event was a huge success, attracting a sell out crowd of 7000 rum lovers to the Kensington Olympia.

As you can imagine, it was a messy affair with over 75000 tots of rum consumed over the 3 day celebration of pirate’s favourite spirit.  A special appearance by Ron Jeremy to promote his new venture, Ron de Jeremy, was one of the many highlights that I can remember (And there’s probably a few that I can’t).  Sailor Jerry’s entertaining pirate themed stall had all and sundry joining a rum fuelled conga line around Olympia, and the 69% proof ‘Rum Fire’ had me gasping for air.

Ian Burrell, the UK ambassador for rum & UK Rumfest creator had this to say:

“We’re extremely pleased to confirm that RumFest 2011 was the best yet. For the first time, RumFest extended its offering with the first ever Boutique RumFest on Friday afternoon, created specifically for New & Boutique rums or Cachaca brands and hosting a bespoke introduction to the world of rum.  RumFest 2011 was undoubtedly the most successful to date and we’re thoroughly excited about what next year has to bring!”

BSF also had the pleasure of attending the annual Golden Rum Barrel Awards at the Hilton Hotel, where all the biggest rum producers in the world gathered for a glamorous evening of prize-giving and partying.  The big winner on the night was Foursquare Distillery, Barbados, who won Rum Distiller & Rum Distillery of the year 2011.  The full list of winners is available at www.goldenrumbarrel.co.uk.

With such an illustrious event this year, we certainly can’t wait for next year’s event.
