Tamarind is an award winning Michelin star restaurant situated in the heart of London’s thriving Mayfair. The Tamarind sets itself apart from most Indian restaurants by winning several top honours including the 2005 Best of Britain award for Restaurant Achievement of the Year as well as the Best Front of House award for 2001 and 2002 also the Restaurateurs Indian Restaurant of the Year award in 2003 and 2004. When Rajesh Surl, CEO of Tamarind, invited BSF to taste the new menu, we truly felt honoured and couldn’t wait to sample the new mouth watering menu (we were drooling all the way there).
The restaurant has an elegant yet relaxing feel to it, which is the perfect atmosphere if you want to get away from London’s busy settings. Whether it is to just have a bit of lunch during the day or to dine in the evenings, the Tamarind offers a warm dining experience. The Spring Lunch menu was well thought out, with a selection of French, Australian and New Zealand wines to compliment the flavours of the dishes (Wine served in 125ml measures). The food is well presented and reflects exactly why Tamarind is an award winning restaurant. The food was not greasy, nor heavy on the stomach but light and enjoyable (see images below).
Sesame coated cakes of minced vegetables with dried mango and toasted coriander seeds, served with tamarind chutney.
Tandoori salmon in a marinade of ginger, chilli, yogurt and dill; served on salad leaves.
Warm carrot and ginger pudding with caramel sauce. Afterwards, we were greeted by the Chef Alfred Prasad, who was the youngest Indian chef to receive a Michelin star – at just 29 years old. The whole experience at Tamarind was an enjoyable one for the BSF team.
