The World Of Takashi Murakami
It’s no dark secret that I am a huge anime and manga fan, yes I do have other hobbies aside from fashion and watching Big Brother believe it or not. I find the pop culture in Japan is inspirational and very different from that of the UK, it seems to be always thriving in fashion, art, culture and music. One artist which caught my eye whilst researching into the connection between art and fashion at college, is Takashi Murakami, known for his colourful bold pop-art and distinctive manga style characters such as my favourites Mr. Dob and Kai Kai Kiki.
He is acknowledged in the art world and beyond and has done collaborations with Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton, Kayne West and G-Shock. He is often compared to Andy Warhol but in my opinion they are two different artists, with two different styles of work and Andy Warhol engaged with his audience in a different way even though some will argue with my point of view (Please don’t). Takashi Murakami was born in Tokyo in 1963 and received his BFA, MFA and PhD from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. He has had recent solo shows at Marianne Boesky Gallery, New York (2003); Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, Paris (2002); Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (2001); Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2001); and Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, Paris (2001).
Kayne West seems really irritating in this video. He collaborated with LV on the handbag range but what I didn’t know that he release these uber cute animations for the campagine.
How amazing are these!!
