The Whitechapel Gallery’s Art Plus Drama Party celebrates the fusion of art and drama in an exceptional one-off event on Thursday 24 March.

Whitechapel Gallery Director, Iwona Blazwick OBE, Art Plus Chair, Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst and Harper’s Bazaar Editor-in-Chief Lucy Yeomans and the committee of leading figures from the arts, fashion, film and theatre worlds, invite guests to an evening of live performance, art and drama to raise funds for the Gallery’s Education and Community programme.

Artist Vito Acconcis, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Barbara Kruger, and Lawrence Weiner have each scripted five minute monologues to be performed live by leading actors.

Celebrity DJs will get the party started with live sets throughout the Gallery and guests will also have the opportunity to bid on specially commissioned artworks during an auction. Artists include Angela de la Cruz, Nan Goldin, Philip Lorca di Corcia, Robert Morris, Julian Opie and Paula Rego.

The Art Plus Drama Party 2011 will raise vital funds for the Whitechapel Gallery’s Education and Community programme that works with over 3,000 children and 30 diverse community groups each year.  Guests can support this important work by buying tickets at £145, with advance tickets at £125 if purchased before 23 December 2010. 

Last year’s Art Plus Music Party saw glamorous guests including Kate Moss, Johnny Borrell,Jefferson Hack, and Tracey Emin enjoying live performances by Primal Scream’s front manBobby Gillespie, accompanied by special guest Jamie Hince (The Kills); artists Tim Nobleand Sue Webster with punk band S.C.U.M; twice Mercury Music Prize & multiple Brit Award nominee Natasha Khan (Bat for Lashes); and the London premiere of Sol is going home… by artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster and composer Ari Benjamin Meyers featuring a 28-piece orchestra.
